Knighted the Night

"Sniff sniff* My hair isn't long enough to wrap around my hair 3x but wrapping 2x is too loose."

I've failed at several adorable pinterest hairdos. And tonight was knighted the Night of Getting it Right.

While hair is not usually considered a craft, I believe any young woman who has tried to make a beautiful sculpture out of thin, flat hair can appreciate a successful hairdo.

That is not to say that my hair tonight is a work of art, but I am pleased enough that I felt documentation was needed. Plus I think on a Saturday night when I'm actually going out, I'd like to replicate it.

Head split into three sections - Top, middle, and bottom
Braid sides to back in each section
In each section
Make ponytail
Backcomb ponytail
Fishtail braid so loosely it's more like a messy twister
Twist into a loose bun & pin
Add homemade bow out of black lace

Flea Market Style - This is home

1. Homemade stuffed elephant turned carousel on laundry teal painted agitator from antique store

 2. Old drawer from Gramma. Replaced mirror on vanity & displays/stores jewelry

 3. Table top - Adorable blue dress-up shoes Mom bought me from the thrift store when I was 5

4. My Little Ponies have magnets in their feet! Who knew?

5. Alice in Wonderland - a real page turner. I've used this technique for bookends & wall decorations (use a plate hanger)

 6. Cheese grater? No - earring hanger

 7. Bird cage plus ceramic hummingbird chimes from Goodwill

 8. 3 plates + 2 glasses = 3 tiers for Goodwill! Hip Hip Hooray...

 9. Antique window with strands of lace for hanging notes. One from Jess here & one of my infant shoes.

 10. Change jar labeled "Honeymoon fund"

 11. I don't even know. Sometimes I'm just going for "Well that's interesting."

 12. I knew American Literature would come in handy. Rather than put a hole in my apartment wall to hang this 50lb mirror, these hardbacks seem to work just fine.

Little Plug...

...for Emily who made these shirts. She's awesome. http://starsgoings.blogspot.com

We sold our homemade items at the local farmers' market one Friday. What a cool experience :) Thanks for helping me fulfill my life goal of living Emily!

Midnight Corkbird

This corkboard was a gift for my little sister.

The Supplies:
  • sturdy kind of paper (I used an old school folder)
  • patterned paper
  • lace
  • rubber cement
  • blue paint
  • plastic white gems
  • corkboard

The How To:
  1. Paint the corkboard.
  2. While it dries, cut out a template of a bird.
  3. Trace bird onto patterned paper and cut out birds.
  4. Use rubber cement to glue lace onto corkboard (as the telephone line) and then glue birds pirched on line.
  5. Lastly, glue the gems to look like stars.

After this picture, I also added black dots as eyes for the birds. And the bird template has proven useful for other projects. I'm sure you'll see.

Why This Blog

Here's why...

  • I noticed a pattern in my behavior - I notice patterns.
  • I love how simple creations can be so pleasing.
  • My free time is consumed with projects.

And the title "Craft Curriculum" stems from a joke I made once or twice -
Why didn't I just Major in Martha Stewart?

My hopes for this blog are that I can share my ideas and creations with whatever other crafters are out there. Those who can relate with me when I say I have a weakness overspending in Michael's, the Craft Warehouse, and my favorite, Ben Franklin.

Please Enjoy and give feedback.
